The MAGA communist strategy remains the path forward for the antiwar movement. We are only going to be able to build a sufficient united front against the Zionist right if we bring together the different forces which oppose Zionism, and collectively advance a politics that can rally Americans in resistance. As shown by the history of mass coalitions, such a united front cannot be something Marxists try to commandeer; if we do this, we’ll only isolate ourselves. This is the part of the coalition relationship that Marxists must make sure we understand, and those of us who do understand it will hold ourselves accountable to this principle. We don’t want anyone to stop being conservative before they work with us; which is why when we ask our prospective coalition partners to reconsider certain preconceptions about communism, mainly when it comes to “Judeo-Bolshevism,” we are speaking in good faith.
This was the posture that MAGA communists took in response to when Candace Owens recently made another statement demonizing the Bolsheviks. This statement was a more generic implication about the Gulags having been something sinister, but if you’ve seen the more detailed things Owens has said about the Bolsheviks, it’s apparent just what kind of anti-communist narratives Owens has been taking guidance from. These are the narratives that emphasize the alleged atrocities the Soviets committed against Christians, with this supposed religious genocide having a death toll in the tens of millions. Part of why this makes sense to Owens and the other followers of the narrative is because they believe that Bolshevism was Zionist. Which represents a successful misdirection of the American Christians who’ve been coming to Palestine solidarity in response to Israel’s violence against Christians.
If you’re familiar with the “communism is Jewish” line that Hitlerites use, it’s apparent that such ideological forces have also played a part in propagating the “Bolshevism is Zionist” line. But Owens isn’t prejudiced in that more serious kind of way, so I won’t accuse her camp of being Nazis. In fact, it’s because MAGA communists refuse to engage in the leftist “conservatives are Nazis” slander that we’re working to build this coalition. Rather I’ll counter Owens’ anti-communist prejudices by pointing to the real position the Bolsheviks held on Zionism, exemplified in this part from Lenin’s The position of the Bund in the Party:
Can we possibly attribute to chance the fact that it is the reactionary forces all over Europe, and especially in Russia, who oppose the assimilation of the Jews and try to perpetuate their isolation? That is precisely what the Jewish problem amounts to: assimilation or isolation?—and the idea of a Jewish “nationality” is definitely reactionary not only when expounded by its consistent advocates (the Zionists), but likewise on the lips of those who try to combine it with the ideas of Social-Democracy (the Bundists). The idea of a Jewish nationality runs counter to the interests of the Jewish proletariat, for it fosters among them, directly or indirectly, a spirit hostile to assimilation, the spirit of the “ghetto.” When the National Assembly of 1791 decreed the emancipation of the Jews,” writes Renan, “it was very little concerned with the question of race. ... It is the business of the nineteenth century to abolish all ‘ghettos,’ and I cannot compliment those who seek to restore them. The Jewish race has rendered the world the greatest services. Assimilated with the various nations, harmoniously blended with the various national units, it will render no lesser services in the future than in the past.”
Responding to anti-communist propaganda can often be a trap, but the “Bolshevism was Zionist” accusation is something that’s worth debunking, because this particular discussion brings an opportunity to put forth important insights about what class struggle means. The value in this conversation is that it allows for investigations into what the working-class cause represents—which is not only something that anti-communists need to know about, but also something that Marxists ourselves need to constantly re-investigate.
To advance the proletarian cause, and thereby fulfill the primary role which Marxists are tasked with at this stage in history, you need to carefully assess which actions or positions benefit the working class. When you do this, you’ll inevitably find yourself in opposition to Zionism, and all other kinds of ethnic nationalism. Any time someone claims to be a communist while upholding Zionism, they’re going against the principled pro-worker position that Lenin and the Bolsheviks upheld. The high number of Jews among the Bolsheviks, which the “Judeo-Bolshevik” theories point to as proof of Marxism’s ethnic nationalist nature, can be explained by historical materialist factors; namely the persecuted role Jews had in that time and place, which made them especially drawn to the class struggle.
To defeat the Zionist right, it’s critical that we clarify these historical and present falsehoods about communism; not just for the sake of unity between conservatives and Marxists, but because every anti-Zionist must know which fight they’re fighting. Zionists have twisted the narrative to make it seem like Zionism is synonymous with the Jewish people, and they’ve gotten many of the people who oppose Zionism to share this idea. I don’t believe that Candace Owens in particular shares this perception towards Jews; rather I believe that by promoting the narrative about Marxist-Judeo violence against Christians, Owens is unintentionally serving the actors who propagate the “Jewish question” narrative in more direct ways. Actors like Nick Fuentes, who Owens has been shown to be incompatible with because of his covertly Zionist politics.
Fuentes represents the wing of the Zionist right that views Jews as competitors, and sees Israel as a model for white nationalists to emulate. His role in the war on Iran is to funnel partially conscious individuals into this controlled opposition project. Again, this contrasts with what Owens is doing, because Owens has objectively been helping the antiwar cause. Yet the problem of anti-communist ideology continues to undermine what Owens seeks to do; not just by dividing the antiwar movement, but by legitimizing a certain Zionist psyop. This is the psyop which tells anti-Zionists that they should view Jews as a nationality, and thereby accept one of Zionism’s core tenets. When this narrative is combined with demonizing propaganda against communists, the effect is to create a fundamental obstacle towards class struggle itself; because if all of Marxism’s theories about class struggle are just a cover for Zionist warfare against Christianity, then the essential insights of Marxism’s theoreticians can be thrown out.
I am asking that antiwar conservatives do their own research about the veracity of the “Soviet holocaust” claims, and seek out what Marxists have actually written. Not because I expect everyone to become a Marxist, but because at the very least we’ll need to combat anti-communist propaganda in order to effectively combat the enemies we’re facing. These enemies include not only the Zionist right, but the social democrats, who may soon be handed over the role of running the empire. The Zionist “progressive” Democrats are tacitly allied with the Zionist right in waging war against the American people and the world. Our coalition’s goal must be to thwart this Satanic alliance. If these are the priorities we stick to, we’ll be able to see through the tricks that our enemies throw at us.
