Since Washington invaded Iraq, there has emerged a current of pro-imperialist actors who retrospectively oppose the Iraq war, while endorsing every new imperial aggression. They do this because the Iraq war was such an obviously heinous project, anybody who wants to be taken seriously needs to distance themselves from it. Across the ideological spectrum, there are plenty of these kinds of imperial propagandists, the ones who use selective disavowal tactics to make it look like they aren’t neocons. But a figure who’s especially worth focusing on right now is Bronze Age Pervert, the far right commentator who’s spoken against the Iraq invasion yet is now cheering on an invasion of Venezuela.
BAP denounces imperialism-compatible left, then promotes regime change
“The Venezuelan govt is not something America should tolerate,” BAP posted last week. “this is [America's] sphere of influence…I think Trump can get popular acclaim now and broad bipartisan support toppling this hostile regime and having a plausible locally beneficent option friendly to USA put in place.” BAP is embodying the exact same kind of cowardly, destructive politics that he’s identified within neocons like Christopher Hitchens. BAP has said that “Hitchens supported the Iraq War because of his ties to the international left and the ETA-analogue PKK among the Kurds. I wonder how much American [Deep] State support for Kurds comes from these very old sympathies. John Birch Society was right.”
It’s obvious why BAP is hypocritical. The only way anybody could see his reasoning as internally consistent is if they share the warped perception of geopolitics BAP represents, in which “might makes right” (whatever that means) is seen as the sole factor in whether a war should be supported. This logic is not shared by the bulk of the American masses, because though most of them aren’t strongly familiar with the crisis Venezuela is facing, most of them already know that we don’t need another war.
The experiences of the War on Terror have irrevocably shifted American mass consciousness, creating an unprecedented obstacle to the success of any given imperialist narrative. This collective aversion towards anything that reminds Americans of the Iraq war is why BAP has engaged in his superficial anti-neocon posturing. But as soon as actors such as him get an opportunity to assist the imperial project, they’ll take it. And he has his counterparts on the left, which include not just the social fascist “progressive” politicians but also some of the world’s most prominent “Marxist” entities.
The KKE’s effort to propagate Trotskyist wrecker narratives
Any political project can be co-opted, and Greece’s KKE is today the primary vehicle through which our enemies are co-opting the global communist movement.
That the KKE advances a pro-imperialist agenda is apparent from how KKE-aligned voices, like BAP, make a point to attack Maduro’s government. Because the role of these actors is to influence class-conscious workers, unlike BAP they don’t do this by painting Venezuela as “hostile.” They do it by smearing Maduro as an anti-socialist opportunist every single time they get the chance to. When I say every single time, I mean even when they’re ostensibly denouncing U.S. aggressions towards Venezuela, as the KKE-affiliated In Defense of Communism did last year:
No matter what #Maduro is and despite all existing objections towards his corrupt, highly anti-communist social democratic regime, the attempt of foreign agents to intervene in the internal political affairs of #Venezuela and create chaos is totally unacceptable. The toppling of Hugo Chavez's statues by anti-government protesters is a disgrace. The U.S imperialists and their allies in the region must get their dirty hands off Venezuela and its people.
ONLY the working men and women of Venezuela are entitled to decide the fate of their country. Full solidarity and support to the @PCV_Venezuela, the genuine voice of Venezuela's communists. Hasta Siempre!
No matter what the KKE and its lackeys will say their position on Venezuela is during Washington’s next assaults on the country, this shamefully unprincipled statement is the true representative of where they stand. When Idcommunism undermined its supposed solidarity sentiment by immediately vilifying Maduro, it was carrying forth a longstanding Trotskyist scheme from within Venezuela to sabotage the Bolivarian revolution. A scheme that these betrayers had concealed by hiding behind the name of Venezuela’s communist party (which is the PCV that’s referenced here).
Within the PCV, only a small minority faction had ever taken the position that Idcommunism describes, wherein Maduro is viewed as an “anti-communist” traitor to the revolution. This faction had taken over the party following the death of Hugo Chavez, and then anti-democratically shut out anybody who challenged its vendetta against the revolutionary government. The propaganda campaign that this wrecking effort involved was so widespread, it successfully fooled many global communists for a time; but in 2023, the PCV’s authentic militants took legal action against the Trotskyists, and thereby exposed their false claim to being the party’s representative voices.
By the time Idcommunism made this statement in the summer of 2024, the Trotskyists had already lost the case; so for Idcommunism to have still held them up revealed just how dishonest the KKE’s camp is.
Why are these our biggest ideological enemies today?
These are the political operatives that have taken on the role of laundering this regime change war’s propaganda talking points. They’re the actors who hold a purely hostile relationship towards the authentically dissident elements within their respective movements, and will always work to lead the people towards a pro-imperialist stance. To figure out how to combat their ideological poison, we can investigate why they’re the political trends that have come to have this role during our time.
The “dissident right,” and BAP in particular, have gained so much prominence because the old brand of Christian Zionist conservatism has declined. Today, “rightist” politics can only gain mass pull by explicitly posturing as being against liberal modernity; which they in practice are not, but this doesn’t mean they aren’t dangerous. BAP and these other “rightist” actors do need to be fought against, or they’ll successfully neutralize the anti-imperialist and class-conscious sentiments within MAGA.
The KKE has become the main force on the imperialism-compatible left partly because other types of leftism have greatly declined in recent years; but also because during the era we’re now in, these Trotskyist wrecker forces see a major opportunity to go on the offensive. They’ve been pursuing these sectarian escalations at the worst possible moment, when the workers urgently need to unify against capitalist reaction; but the goal of these wreckers is not to win victory for the workers, it’s to push out their rivals. And when the imperial hegemon has launched a new cold war, which it’s now using to pivot into aggressions against Latin America, the left opportunists see it as in their best interests to tacitly ally with the hegemon.
They want to make these war escalations bring about a new splintering within the global workers movement, which is perhaps our greatest peril; and the only way we can fight against this sabotage effort is by strengthening the anti-imperialist united front, which in this moment means unapologetically backing Maduro.
