As the American workers experience an economic apocalypse from our government’s war on Iran, we must connect this to the larger battle that our class is fighting. To the global war of resistance that our fellow workers have launched in response towards Washington’s expanding global assault against the working class. When we have the perspective on how the anti-imperialist axis has been fighting back, and the mentality of sacrifice its members have embraced, we gain clarity about where to take our own popular movements amid these new crises.
As many have pointed out, those who only need to pay for this war with higher gas prices rather than with their lives are lucky to be in such a position. When I speak about the workers in my country being in the same struggle as the masses who are directly fighting the U.S. empire, I do so with such awareness about just how high the price is for our counterparts in countries like Iran. Something that the events of this last decade have made clear, though, is that those who are fighting these most costly battles operate with total confidence in the rightness of their sacrifice.
When the Donbass workers chose to resist against the Kiev Nazi regime, rather than act passively or become fascist collaborators, they knew that the regime and its Washington backers would retaliate. When Gaza’s resistance coalition launched the Al-Aqsa Flood operation, they knew the occupier’s reaction would be genocidal, yet they knew that not fighting back would be worse than anything. This is the mindset of honor and duty that Iranians are demonstrating when they continue to resist, even as the enemy’s genocidal violence threatens to reach the level of nuclear holocaust. And it’s what the world’s workers must internalize in order to keep advancing our interests amid these next big hits to our living standards.
Whenever your enemy violates your rights, their disrespect comes with an offer, one that’s based in the thinking of an abusive relationship: if you forgive what I’ve done to you, and treat me like a friend, then the harm won’t have to be as bad as it would otherwise. We can pretend like nothing is wrong. This is the nature of the diplomacy that U.S. imperialism extends towards all the countries that are on its list of targets.
When the Trump 2.0 administration first came in, and carried out a PR campaign to brand Trump as a “pro-peace” dealmaker, it wasn’t looking for actual peace. It was looking for leaders in Iran, Russia, and the other target countries who would be willing to look the other way when Washington committed aggressions against their people, or against peoples which they had a responsibility to defend. It was trying to turn these countries back into vassal states for international banking and corporate interests; which of course it still wants to do, but now Iran’s commitment to resistance has forced the empire to admit defeat on that front.
The peoples within Donbass, Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, Iran, and the other places Washington has aggressed against have not had the choice to pretend their enemy is a friend. There have been betrayers from inside their societies who’ve become imperial propagandists, but as a rule, a country’s popular masses are never going to accept the violation of their collective dignity. Capitulation is for those who don’t respect their own nations, or themselves. Such is the lesson that all workers must internalize as our rulers try to get us to bend over, and acquiesce to the next schemes of our pedophilic financial parasites.
The offer we’re getting from our rulers is: “if you stay demobilized, if you don’t organize to end this war and assert your rights as workers, then you’ll be safe from the massive crackdown we’re getting ready to carry out. Those ICE agents at the airports won’t single you out, you won’t be raided or charged. Then, when we raise wages and expand social welfare, those of you who benefit from this the most will be rewarded for your compliance.” Our response must be to rally behind the world’s anti-imperialist forces, take example from their struggles, and build a mass coalition against the ruling class and their collaborators. It’s the only honorable thing to do.
There are many corrupt individuals and organizations in this country which will gladly take up the enemy’s offer. The Zionist right, the “progressive” pro-NATO Democrats, the “dissident right” Hitlerites who support war on the Global South; these are the degenerate forces that seek to facilitate U.S. imperialism’s plans for ramping up its wars. They’re the compradors of our own society, willing to team up with global banking capital in exchange for bribes. And we may see the far right parts of these elements unify with the “progressives” to a far greater extent than one would expect; as long as they share a desire to accelerate the genocide against the Global South, there is great overlap between them. The most relevant dividing line of this next phase will be between those who stand against imperialism’s expanding offensive, and those who join their global compatriots in helping destroy the Satanic Epstein empire.
By committing to the path of resistance, Iran has already subjected the beast to an irrecoverable loss. It’s permanently taken away Washington’s ability to make Iran submit, as the liberal pro-capitulation elements within Iran have been successfully sidelined. This shows that even in a country with a substantial proportion of people who could be brought towards the pro-imperialist position, the forces of popular revolution are capable of rallying towards collective defiance.
Within Iran, there’s a considerable metropolitan middle class, created by the working-class gains which the Islamic revolution has brought about. It’s inside this element where imperialism’s anti-Islamic Republic psyops have been able to find by far the most success, because these psyops have seized upon real contradictions within Iranian society. Yet now that Washington has abandoned all pretenses of wanting “peace,” Iranian society has reached a new level of unity behind the revolutionary government, and the liberal reformers have been utterly discredited in the eyes of the masses.
The American anti-imperialist movement can rally our own civilization’s masses in an equivalent way. Because though in the long term our ruling class plans to rebuild America’s labor aristocracy, and bribe the bulk of the masses with renewed social benefits, from where we are right now the road to this is looking utterly fraught. This is because of just how much economic destruction the present phase in imperialism’s warfare has ensured. We have not yet reached the worst moment in this oil crisis, and things may get far worse than they are now before they start to get better. The same is true for the unemployment crisis, and all other aspects of our capitalist collapse.
The faction in our ruling class that seeks accelerationist neoliberal austerity is trying to hold on at all costs, so implementing social-democratic reforms will require massively intensified inter-elite conflicts. The liberal technocrats see that the system will collapse from within if America’s living standard crisis is not addressed, so they desire to resolve this crisis; but the system’s mounting contradictions are creating perilous obstacles towards that goal. We must use this moment to agitate and organize the masses as much as we can, taking advantage of every opportunity to direct popular anger against the banker regime. If we maneuver this right, we’ll lead Americans to carry out their own resistance, and defeat the beast from within.
