Ultraviolence, movement wreckers, cognitive warfare, & the engineering of society’s unraveling

“Follow me? Do you have any choice? You’ll all follow me.”

When Charles Manson said this to an interviewer in response to the news that many continued to be interested in accepting him as their leader, it exemplified his tendency to talk in riddles. But given his statements about how the current socioeconomic system is destroying the environment, this riddle’s answer was easy to find: he was referring to the fact that civilization is headed for destruction if it continues on its present course, and he was presenting his agenda as the only path to survival in the face of this reality of impending collapse.

The latter of course isn’t true. But it remains to be seen whether society will recognize this, or proceed according to the reactionary, nihilistic, and ultraviolent mentality that people like Manson put forth as the solution to our crises. He defined Helter Skelter as “confusion,” and concluded that the way out of this confusion is to manufacture further confusion—whether that entails advancing his racist worldview, embracing the ultraviolence which led to the tragedy the Manson Family created, or participating in an intelligence campaign to sabotage revolutionary movements. Which there’s good evidence to indicate he did.

It’s also apparent that by “me,” Manson wasn’t merely referring to himself, who he regarded as a “nobody.” He was referring to those who would repeat his participation in the state’s destabilization of liberation movements, and who would therefore reinforce capitalism’s engineering of societal unraveling. The U.S. government is eager to help this process along, because it’s what can destabilize the social movements capable of steering civilization in a different direction.

Cults as weapons for counterrevolution

Why was Manson so confident that everyone would one day follow him? Because the methods he had used to gain followers, and prime those followers to carry out the murders, were taught to him by the highest levels of government. Not only were his LSD programming methods for the Family entirely consistent with the tactics of the CIA’s MK ULTRA drug mind control program, as detailed in journalist Tom O’Neill’s expose on these intelligence connections, but the murders served to advance the U.S. capitalist state’s counterrevolutionary goals. The explosion of violence, seemingly designed to be as shocking and sensationalism-ready as possible, let the media vilify the social movements it had associated with Manson.

Initially, the murders were intended as a way to scapegoat the Black Panther Party, and the Los Angeles black community in general. J. Edgar Hoover was seeking to widen the gap between whites and blacks in Los Angeles, a goal which the FBI had been advancing through trolling efforts worthy of 4Chan; in a fabricated letter, FBI agents posed as Panthers and proclaimed that the members of the Peace and Freedom Party of California would “be lined up against the wall with the rest of the whites.” With the Manson Family’s murder of several Hollywood figures, which the perpetrators attempted to pin on the Panthers by writing “pig” in the blood of the victims, the spooks successfully fomented paranoia. A paranoia that’s considered, at least in the popular imagination about that era, to have replaced the revolutionary climate of the 60s.

Suddenly the public shared the hysteria of the CIA, which had been conducting Operation CHAOS—the project to uncover supposed foreign influence on the U.S. population throughout the heights of the counterculture movement. The surveillance and experimentation on the Manson Family fit into this monitoring effort, and made CHAOS into a way for the CIA to carry out its own domestic counterrevolutionary operation alongside the FBI’s COINTELPRO (which was behind the fake Black Panthers letter).

CHAOS differed from COINTELPRO in that rather than merely fomenting rumors or sending agent saboteurs into radical groups, it manufactured entire circles of movement wreckers, who they programmed to commit elaborate crimes for the purpose of psyops. It was an importing of the CIA’s tactics abroad, which consist of creating terrorist organizations and other proxies for waging war against anti-imperialists.

Instrumental in this psyop was law enforcement’s enabling of Manson, which let the CIA program his followers for the violence without interference. This involved a number of intelligence-tied figures who gained strange associations with Manson, among them the CIA operative Reeve Witson. As O’Neill has said, Witson’s surveillance efforts directed at the family weren’t made to stop them from committing crimes, but to ensure that things went according to plan: “Just a couple of years before he died, Reeve told them [Hollywoods insiders] that his greatest regret was that he had infiltrated the Family on an operation that he wasn’t allowed to discuss, and that he could have prevented Sharon Tate’s murder. But even more shocking was that he told them that he’d been to the crime scene after the murders were committed but before the police arrived. That was pretty stunning information.”

Researching numerous other suspect decisions made by the authorities who dealt with Manson, from the ridiculous lenience of his parole officer to the lies that his prosecutor invented in order to cover for the powerful people who surrounded the case, has made it abundantly clear to me how movement wreckers like Manson are created. These are the types of wreckers who get plucked from the peripheries of society, then get used to sabotage social movements or otherwise advance the state’s interests. The state enables their transgressions so that they can carry out their missions, influences their thinking through either psychological manipulations or actual mind control, and spins narratives to cover its own tracks once the monsters it’s created have become infamous. Manson’s involvement with the Haight-Ashbury clinic, the open-door laboratory that the CIA’s front scientists used to study the effects of drugs, further shows how Manson was used as an experimental subject in this way. And it explains how the spooks accessed his followers, who went to the Haight along with him and who were ideal targets for manipulation.

As I’ve gone further down this rabbit hole, I’ve picked up on additional examples of the kind of experiment the spooks carried out on the Manson Family. Examples like Jonestown.

The CIA has supported or created many cults, both within the U.S. and abroad. It’s carried out a coverup for the U.S. “new age” pedophile cult the Finders, backed the Taiwan-based anti-communist doomsday cult Falun Gong, enabled Iran’s terroristic MEK cult, and no doubt at least covertly supported Guyana’s black supremacist cult the House of Israel due to its having served as a paramilitary enforcer for the country’s neo-colonial regime. But the People’s Temple is exceptional in that it’s a cult which falls under both of these categories (domestic movement-wrecking operation and foreign counterrevolutionary proxy), and in that it most directly gained its power by deceiving U.S. radicals into assisting its covertly fascist goals. It was a proxy for Operation Condor, Washington’s campaign to kill leftists throughout Latin America. Except in this case, instead of killing leftists from within Latin America itself, Operation Condor transported U.S. leftists into the region so the CIA could torture and murder them with total impunity.

Groups like the Manson Family and the Finders only vaguely appealed to counterculture sentiments. The People’s Temple outright claimed to be a Marxist organization, and its leader Jim Jones put extensive work into assisting in the civil rights movement to the effect of gaining the Temple further perceived credibility within radical spaces. Which had the consequence of luring even more people into the nightmare that awaited those who joined the Temple.

I say “the consequence” instead of “the intent” because he didn’t act alone, nor with initial goals that resembled the incomprehensible horror which his efforts would end up creating. It’s likely that from the moment when Jones emerged as a preacher from his impoverished background, the spooks were grooming him into becoming a puppet for their designs of counterrevolutionary sabotage. His childhood mentor was Dan Mitrione, the infamous CIA torturer and trainer of abusive neo-colonial Latin American police who was perversely mourned as a great humanitarian after guerrillas captured and killed him in 1970. As Jones built his congregation, he was carrying out a vague but clearly counterrevolutionary mission in Cuba, which tied into his larger campaign to give anti-communist speeches across Latin America. And Mitrione obviously helped guide him down this path.

This naturally went along with Jones having received enormous backing from prominent right-wing figures, who were fine with his publicly claiming to be a Marxist. The People’s Temple’s media-tailored image as a communist black liberation group mirrored Mitrione’s fake image as a human rights hero for Latin America. And it successfully gained the Temple support from left-wing celebrities, the many members of the era’s radical movements who joined the Temple, and even the Black Panther Angela Davis. In retrospect, the Temple had every red flag for being a product of Operation CHAOS, down to its purpose of being a way to gather information on radicals. But these red flags were evidently concealed with astounding effectiveness.

Davis, who’s neither a fed nor a fool, became so confident in the authenticity of Jones that she said to him and his temple: “I know you are in a very difficult situation right now and there is a conspiracy, a very profound conspiracy designed to destroy the contributions which you have made to our struggle.” When Manson said “you’ll all follow me,” he was aware that anyone could be duped by the tactics his CIA handlers use, even the most credible revolutionaries in the country.

Jones may have done some good work (all of the best movement infiltrators do so that they can be above suspicion), but he was also a secret abuser and double-dealing anti-communist. One who, due to his messianic complex, had been picked by the CIA to become the face of an entrapment project. Manson’s beliefs in environmental restoration were genuine, but like Jones, he nonetheless served as a charismatic figure who lured people into a plot to destabilize the very social movements he claimed to be dedicated towards.

And it’s clear from his drugged mannerisms at key moments during the Jonestown saga, as well as the indications that the situation had spun out of his own control, that he ended up being another experimental subject for MK ULTRA. His aides were getting him to carry forth the operation, and to parrot whatever narratives they required to keep up the charade. He even remarked that “all of my thoughts are coming from the CIA.” After the Temple financially entrapped its members through fleecing, and after many of its members had become so vulnerable to the Temple that its enforcers were able to coerce them at gunpoint, the mass transfer towards the Guyana compound was made.

Echoing the suspicious events surrounding the Manson Family, the U.S. authorities made no effort to prevent this vast kidnapping, which would have warranted legal attention even without all of the behind-the-scenes abuse. Normally, no government would simply allow an enormous religious group to relocate to another country, especially one that has a politically subversive agenda like the “Marxist” People’s Temple claimed to have had. The compound served as a concentration camp for black people, with the blacks having been enslaved in a guarded zone and virtually all of them having been killed in the eventual massacre. The compound acted as a parallel to the one of the House of Israel, and to the Nazi colony that the Pinochet dictatorship was using as a torture site at the same time.

When Jones’ handlers decided to end the experiment, and send death squads towards the compound to kill off everyone who might have been a liability, Jones ordered a mass suicide to preempt the carnage that he reasonably believed (despite the mainstream narrative that he was delusional about this) would soon come. Then the media made out Jones to have been a communist tyrant who fulfilled horseshoe theory, associated the People’s Temple with genuine radical groups, and promoted a paranoid Cold War story that the Temple had been allied with the Soviet Union. The Temple had fulfilled its purposes as an intelligence-gathering operation for the radical movements it infiltrated COINTELPRO-style, and as a sacrificial propaganda item used to vilify liberation movements.

Davis was right that there was a conspiracy, but mistaken about its nature. The atrocity that Jones was used to carry out aligned with the goals of not one but two infamous CIA plots: Operation CHAOS, and (more loosely) Operation Northwoods. Northwoods was about murdering U.S. civilians through false flag terrorist attacks so that Washington could justify invading Cuba. Through the People’s Temple, the CIA could murder some of the U.S. civilians it wanted dead the most, and pin the massacre on the communist movement. The direct involvement that Jones had in the CIA’s meddling within Cuba makes these parallels all the more logical. The spooks had manufactured a tragedy and made it out to have emerged all on its own, like they’ve done so many other times through their engineering of sensationalized crimes.

Serial killers as tools for psychological warfare

Since writing my last article about government mind control, I’ve delved further, and encountered some strange corners of the internet. One of which is a YouTube channel dedicated to documenting the findings of Dave McGowan’s book Programmed to Kill: The Politics of Serial Murder. In their descriptions for videos like the one featuring a lecture on Jonestown’s CIA origins, the channel summarizes McGowan’s argument:

The standard profile of serial killers as lone nuts driven only by their inner demons is often wildly inaccurate. When the evidence from numerous high-profile cases is assembled, there are an astounding number of parallels that create a much different image of the serial killer. Many serial killings are in fact murders of political significance, used to protect criminal enterprises such as drug trafficking or sex rings. Even more disturbingly, there is often evidence of mind control programming by intelligence fronts: the military, prisons, mental hospitals, doctors, Satanic cults, etc. Such programming is used to condition these "serial killers" to commit crimes they otherwise would not or confess to crimes they did not actually commit. The treatment of serial killers by law enforcement and the courts is filled with irregularities as a result. Before committing the crimes that brought them notoriety, many serial killers received extremely lenient treatment to the point of cover-up, evidently enjoying protection as a government asset. Once they were no longer needed, they were railroaded into taking the fall as a lone killer, prevented from maintaining their innocence or revealing accomplices.

How well is this argument supported by the evidence? So well that there are examples of CIA-cultivated killers with even more direct proof than was the case for the Manson Family. One of these is Whitey Bulger, the elderly fugitive gang leader who was found guilty of involvement in 11 murders when he was finally prosecuted in 2013. Janet Uhlar, one of the jurors who convicted Bulger, came to regret judging him as such after reading Stephen Kinzer’s Poisoner in Chief: Sidney Gottlieb and the CIA Search for Mind Control. According to Uhlar, before Bulger terrorized Boston from the 1970s into the 90s, his experience with MK ULTRA directly led to his propensity towards violence. He was one of the prisoners who the CIA pressured into participating in their experiments through the promise of receiving benefits in court. For Bulger, it came at the cost of living out an inescapable hell that led him to commit atrocities which he likely would never have committed otherwise.

“Had I known, I would have absolutely held off on the murder charges,” Uhlar has said in an interview. “He didn’t murder prior to the LSD. His brain may have been altered, so how could you say he was really guilty? It was encouraging to know I wasn’t losing my mind, thinking this was important. It told me, this is huge. I mean, how many lives were affected by this? We have no idea.”

A hint of how many can be gleaned from what the Napa Sentinel wrote in 1991, as quoted in Programmed to Kill:

A U.S. Navy psychologist...claims that the Office of Naval Intelligence had taken convicted murderers from military prisons, used behavior modification techniques on them, and then relocated them in American embassies throughout the world...The Navy psychologist was Lt. Commander Thomas Narut of the U.S. Regional Medical Center in Naples, Italy. The information was divulged at an Oslo NATO conference of 120 psychologists from the eleven nation alliance...The Navy provided all the funding necessary, according to Narut. Dr. Narut, in a question and answer session with reporters from many nations, revealed how the Navy was secretly programming large numbers of assassins. He said that the men he had worked with for the Navy were being prepared for commando-type operations, as well as covert operations in U.S. embassies worldwide. He described the men who went through his program as ‘hit men and assassins’ who could kill on command. Careful screening of the subjects was accomplished by Navy psychologists through the military records...and many were convicted murderers serving military prison sentences.

And this is only one facet of the evidence that our government uses mind control to turn people into killers. Just as was the case for Manson and Jones, the spooks pick these individuals out from the margins of society, then turn them into brainwashed puppets for whichever propaganda narratives, counterinsurgency missions, or coverups the spooks want carried out. The ideal candidates for these missions possess extraordinary charisma, making them able to draw others into their destabilization schemes and shield themselves from scrutiny by any movement members they manage to win over. This is how the feds gain many of their informants for their movement infiltration activities: by taking some of the poorest, most disenfranchised people they can find, products of our mass incarceration system and of the social dysfunction that’s produced it, then recruiting them through either monetary payments or less humane means. MK ULTRA showed that to create a totally obedient soldier, you don’t even need to bribe them; you just have to alter their minds through drugs or other psychologically damaging tools.

Programmed to Kill makes the case for numerous household name serial killers being examples of this, from Ed Kemper to Ted Bundy to John Wayne Gacy. Consistent with how the Finders carried out satanic rituals as part of their child trafficking operation, these murders have had an undercurrent of the occult. As McGowan assesses, California’s Bay Area has been a major “spawning ground” for these kinds of satanic killers:

No fewer than six serial killers/mass murderers—Charles Manson, Stanley Baker, Edmund Kemper, Herbert Mullin, John Lindley Frazier, and the Zodiac—were all spawned from the Santa Cruz/San Francisco metropolitan area in a span of just over four years, at a time when ‘serial killers’ were a rare enough phenomenon that they hadn’t yet acquired a name. And another serial killer was said to be at work not far away during the same timeframe. As Bundy chronicler Richard Larsen recounts, the bodies of at least fourteen young women and girls were found, nude and with their belongings missing, in Northern California between December 1969 and December 1973. In the immediate vicinity of each of the bodies “was found an elaborate witchcraft symbol of twigs and rocks.” Remarkably enough, the crimes collectively attributed to these men did not even account for all the ritualized homicides that occurred in the Bay area during that time. For example, the murder of Fred Bennett, the captain of the

Oakland chapter of the Black Panthers whose mutilated remains were found scattered in the Santa Cruz hills, was never solved. And many of the young students who were reported missing from local campuses were never found, either dead or alive, and were therefore never listed as homicide victims.

Likely using MK ULTRA, the CIA had used its puppet serial killers as paramilitary enforcers, assigned to kill off the state’s enemies while the state could claim to have its hands clean. At the same time, they served to strike fear in the people by acting as mythologized campfire bogeymen in the cultural consciousness, producing phenomena like the “satanic panic” that was exploited by the Reaganist Christian theocrats.

As Uhlar assesses, no doubt there are also many obscure criminals who’ve been driven to violence by the government’s experiments, and who are counted as justification for mass incarceration rather than as tools in a systematic campaign to manufacture violence. Roger Smith, one of the spooks involved in the cultivation of the Manson Family, has himself stated: “There are a lot of Charlies running around, believe me.” Not all, or perhaps even most, of these people were intended by the government to become killers; like Bulger, their crimes are merely byproducts of the trauma that the state inflicted upon them. This was the case for the Unabomber, who became victimized by MK ULTRA during his time at Harvard and consequently became overwhelmed by an urge to commit terrorism.

Given this largely incidental nature of the government’s cultivation of killers, where much of the slaughter has appeared because of negligence rather than deliberate calculation, it can be considered part of the broader ways in which the capitalist state cultivates crime to advance its own interests. Bourgeois politicians claim to want to fight crime, but they actually want more crime, because they want more poverty. Crime only exists to the extent that it does because of the austerity, privatization, wage stagnation, deregulation, and regressive taxation that our ruling class has implemented throughout the neoliberal era of the last half-century. The ruling class has exploited the consequential social ills to justify creating the world’s largest prison system—a system that’s been expanded solely for profit—and militarizing the police while eroding civil liberties.

This is the collapse of society that the U.S. bourgeoisie have been engineering for the last couple generations or so. It’s driven by a necessity to turn imperialism’s exploitation inwards as Pax Americana wanes, and as the declining rate of profit forces capital to contract. To manufacture consent for this collapse, our sources of cultural hegemony blame the poor for the country’s crises while ignoring the role of our ruling institutions. Recently, the New York Times has been putting out long, scaremongering articles detailing a supposed crisis of shoplifting and other petty theft. There’s no way it will devote this kind of focus to wage theft and other corporate crimes, which cost the masses overwhelmingly larger amounts of money. Or to the grievous costs that our unprecedented military budget is having on the U.S. public, causing Biden to underspend on social programs at a time when a pandemic is throwing the masses into a new Great Depression.

This new environment, where capitalism’s contradictions have reached a severity that’s provoked millions of former workers to permanently go on strike, the psychological warfare mechanisms I’ve covered are more necessary than ever. The ruling class must accelerate its engineering of society’s unraveling, which entails stirring up new waves of the kinds of violence it created during the Manson and Jonestown eras.

Innovating in cognitive warfare that can weaponize the population against itself

Those scaremongering stories from the Times are an example of the psychological operations that the U.S. government has been directing against its own population via covert interference within the country’s media. Since 2013, with the repeal of the Smith-Mundt act (which prohibited hidden government propaganda targeted at the American people), this practice has been officially legal. And this angle these psyops have been taking, where poor people—poor people of color especially—get vilified as threats to society, is just the surface level of the cognitive warfare campaign that our government is orchestrating against us.

This propaganda campaign is an extension of the worldview promoted by Programmed to Kill’s described true crime media sensations. A worldview which says that the world produces completely random and unavoidable evils—evils which can only be dealt with by the heavy hand of the state. It’s like the U.S. empire’s war propaganda, which points to events such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, hides the role that Washington’s cold war provocations have had behind driving Russia to take such drastic actions, and portrays Putin as an unreasonably belligerent actor who can only be dealt with through NATO intervention. The Russophobic, Sinophobic, and otherwise warmongering psyops that such geopolitical deceptions depend on are central to the CIA’s cognitive warfare efforts. Efforts that it’s lately been making increasingly sophisticated and insidious, in coordination with the other facets of NATO’s disinformation network.

In 2020, a NATO-sponsored report concluded that with the rise of social media, cognitive warfare now has equal importance to sea, land, air, and cyber warfare. And that “While actions taken in the five domains are executed in order to have an effect on the human domain, cognitive warfare’s objective is to make everyone a weapon.” This statement sounds eerily reminiscent of Manson, Jones, Bulger, and MK ULTRA’s other projects to turn people violent or become complicit in violence. But with the scope and subtlety that our government’s cognitive warfare has taken on, MK ULTRA—or whatever iteration of it exists today—is just a tiny part of this campaign to weaponize the population against itself.

As the war propaganda maintains our militaristic paradigm, and as pro-police propaganda like those Times articles maintains the carceral state, the spooks wage counterinsurgency against social movements through cognitive warfare analogous to that which gave rise to the People’s Temple. This is the type of cognitive warfare where charismatic figures get sent into organizing spaces, and carry out their destabilization agenda through means of interpersonal manipulation. After compiling research on movement infiltrators, Media for Justice has described the traits of a modern movement wrecker: highly intelligent and personable, able to adopt the language of a radical ideology, and insidiously manipulative. Their tactics include spinning misleading narratives or outright lies to target organizers, feeding the egos of vain people who seek to gain social media notoriety, pushing monolithic agendas that make group coordination impossible, and weaponizing genuine social issues to make their credibility appear untouchable and to obscure their destabilization agenda.

Crucial to these modern COINTELPRO missions is the cultivation of minions, who are made to naively follow the instructions of the wrecker and defend the credibility of the wrecker in a cult-like fashion. The rhetoric that these kinds of wreckers push lacks nuance, is vitriolic, and is obsessed with tearing down certain figures within the given organizations, who become cast as themselves being the bad actors. Anyone who challenges the destabilization agenda is demonized as an enabler, an abuser, a bigot, and whatever other label the wrecker can come up with. They can also try to deflect suspicion by accusing their targets of being feds. The goals are to splinter the movement, and to steer movement members into ahistorical and undialectical thinking. This is the COINTELPRO side of today’s movement-wrecking operations.

As I said, this overlaps with the spook tactics of using lumpenproles on the periphery of society to carry out violent missions. Which makes it complement the efforts to sow instability through the cultivation of ultraviolence. The CHAOS side of the counterinsurgency, the side that cultivates the equivalent of a Manson Family or a Jonestown, today mainly weaponizes rightist ideology—though there are of course still leftist groups which are clearly influenced by the agendas of the wreckers. What both of these categories have, whether or not their participants claim to be “leftists,” is an utterly reactionary mentality—reactionary both politically, and psychologically. They rally their minions around ahistorical ideas, promising to have the solutions to the crises faced by late-stage capitalist society. The logical conclusion of these modern psyop cults is ultraviolence, a drive to inflict bloodshed and mayhem. Like the Manson Family, they react to Helter Skelter by creating more of it.

The 2020 NATO report talks about “the militarization of brain science,” where militaries are now working closer with academia to innovate in how the government can utilize social psychology, neuro-chemistry, and culture to influence people’s minds. It appears that these innovations in manipulation have replaced the drug experimentations as the tools the spooks use to create ultraviolence. Though as Media for Justice observes, a meeting with a movement infiltrator “often involves their favourite form of narcotic,” which the infiltrator uses to make an organizer more suggestible to their divisive and ahistorical arguments.

To see how effective pure propaganda is at creating violence, look at all of the assaults, and even terrorist attacks, that have come out of the QAnon cult. This is relevant because there’s evidence that QAnon has at the very least been getting exacerbated by the government’s psyops network. A scheme that’s been intertwined with the militaristic propaganda campaigns, and the efforts to manufacture consent for buildup of the national security state. The spooks persuade people to commit violence, the media portrays this as occurring in spite of the state, and the politicians use this as a rationale for endlessly building up the military budget and increasing funding for law enforcement. All the while, the state lets the poor keep getting poorer, making further crime all the more likely. It’s a cycle of collapse that won’t stop getting worse until a genuine revolution wins, one that’s not based in self-defeating ultraviolence but in a scientific study of our material conditions.

A rise in neo-Nazi paramilitarism is what inevitably comes from these destabilization campaigns, and the image of Manson himself is naturally being used to further such an agenda. As columnist Stephen Piccarella has observed about the efforts of white supremacist James N. Mason to rehabilitate Manson: “Mason’s writings have since been rediscovered and adopted by Atomwaffen Division, the neo-Nazi terrorist group whose targeted guerilla efforts to assault and supplant the existing social order continue as of this writing. These are Charles Manson’s friends and fans: murderous fanatics, deranged occultists, addled hipster racists, and conspiracy theorists of the QAnon variety. In a word, Nazis. They read his words and follow his lead and hide in plain sight with the government’s blessing as long as they don’t get in the way.”

“I don't need to kill anyone,” said Manson. “I think it. I have it here.” With the help that the state and its fascist proxies are providing for his ultraviolent cause, he’s more right than ever. The spooks who made his Family do what they did are hard at work to make history repeat itself. And if we’re not careful, we’ll indeed end up following him, then find ourselves in a world where fascism and its destructive ideals have won.
